If you're planning a journey through Whakatāne Airport or simply want to know more about what to expect when travelling, the Frequently Asked Questions below are here to help. If you have a question that isn't covered here, please get in touch.
What airlines fly from Whakatane Airport?
Where in New Zealand can I fly to from Whakatane Airport?
I'm running late for a flight - what should I do?
If you're running late, contact your airline as soon as possible. Even if you have checked in online, you may not be able to board your flight if you arrive too late. Call Air Chathams on 0800 580 127 (or try 07 307 9586) or Sunair on 0800 786 247.
Calling the Airport phone number won’t help - you need to talk to your airline.
Is my flight on time?
For the most up-to-date flight information, please view our flight schedule page or check directly with your airline. Flight times can change due to weather or operational reasons.
When do I need to arrive at the airport?
Air Chathams requires you arrive at the check-in counter at the latest 30 minutes before your scheduled departure time. Sunair requires that you arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled departure time. We advise you not to leave it to the last minute and aim to allow an extra 10-15 minutes. This allows enough time to check in and board your flight without stress, and for unforeseen hold-ups on the way.
Can I leave my car at the airport for someone else to pick up later?
Yes, you can leave your car in the airport car park. However, vehicles are left at the owner’s risk. Please make sure the person collecting your car knows it’s registration and where it’s parked. If you wish to make arrangements for keys to be held at the airport, you should discuss this with your airline, and ensure the person picking up the car has identification when they collect the keys.
Check out our Parking and Transport page for more information.
Is parking free at the airport?

What should I do if I’ve lost something at the airport?

What happens if my flight is cancelled?
If your flight is cancelled, your airline will contact you with options. This may include rebooking you on another flight or providing further instructions.
Can someone meet me at the airport?
